SPECIALIZES IN SAFETY AT THE MINING INDUSTRY
PROXIMITY AWARENESS TECHNOLOGY (COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM)
In 2013 Mr. Etsebeth became involved in the Collision Avoidance system with Gavin Diehl of Acot 500 and MHE. They developed their first generation of Proximity Awareness Technology (Collision Avoidance System) as we know it.
In 2017 Mr. Etsebeth embarked on yet another challenge and started with the development of a high-quality collision avoidance system that would resolve the shortfalls of old systems and would also open doors to new and better technology.
OUR GOAL
Their goal was to develop better systems that would be more robust to the mining environment. In July 2019 the system was ready for testing and passed with flying colors. the tests were performed by the University of Pretoria. It is mandatory to perform field testing for no less than 7 days to validate operational requirements. This system did not disappoint. This gave birth to the Collision avoidance System and Mine Safe (Pty) Ltd. This was established to manufacture and distribute this wonderful product to the world, with Mr. BC Etsebeth and the Mine Safe team, with their years of experience in the mining industry.
In 2020 Mine Safe introduced Smart Tune to the industry. A SMART tune is an essential engine calibration software installed on vehicles to optimize the performance and efficiency of the engine of the vehicle. It refers to the altering of the parameters within the vehicle’s ECU to optimize the performance and efficiency of the engine.
DRIVER FATIGUE MONITORING SYSTEM
Mine Safe also introduced a Driver Fatigue monitoring system that constantly monitors drivers and promptly receives alarms upon unsafe driving behaviors, and therefore effectively reducing the risk of accidents by distraction, drowsiness, cell phone use, and reckless driving.
One of the most integral tools for any big company is a competent and capable service department. Mine Safe also boasts a 24-hour standby service team consisting of 50+ Field service mobile units. All of the vehicles are fully equipped and stocked with the necessary spares and materials to resolve any emergency. We provide superior service to contracted as well as non-contracted clients.
Our ingredients in the supplying of the best products include:

Mine Safe is dedicated and committed to complying with the Employment Equity Act, No 55 of 1998 and to developing an Employment Equity Plan, taking into account the specific circumstances of our company.
PROXIMITY AWARENESS TECHNOLOGY (COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM)
Proximity detection systems have changed the way mining is done. Extreme environment and working conditions damage components. Many of the systems are also inaccurate, needing large detection fields. This could cause nuisance alarms to be triggered continuously. Cluttered PDS displays make personal orientation challenges. In the end, PDS systems are expensive, not developed properly tampered with, and ignored by operators, rendering them ineffective.
Mine Safe presents the Proximity Awareness Technology. Over the years, EDG’s first-generation PDA system evolved from a Level seven and eight proximity awareness system to a Level nine intervention system capable of assistive control for surface and underground operations.
The Proximity Awareness Technology is now further developed in-house through Mine Safe, which specializes in safety equipment for the local and international mining sectors.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS
Let’s take a closer look at the Proximity Awareness Technology components and the unique features that set it apart from all the others. The main controller unit displays GISS backgrounds of the mines, maps in real-time, suggestive voice commands as well as visual and audible warnings are displayed on the screen. With predictive path algorithms, software constantly calculates the safest options for operators.
The antenna houses, the radio, G.P.S., RF, and back-office radio and installed on all vehicles. The antenna’s main function is to relay positioning information to all surrounding vehicles and pedestrians. The antennas are also used to relay critical information from and to the back office. The CBI unit is used to interface with the Proximity Awareness Technology system and includes the following functions. A pairing function is used to pair a pedestrian within a TMM. A load mode function that is used during loading to exclude nuisance alarms and an override button that is used in specific cases.
Prox D, whenever the G.P.S. is diluted, the Proximity Awareness Technology system will automatically switch to time of flight position determination using the Prox D unit. The electronic checklist ensures that Pre-shift checklists are logged when undocked the device will display preset mandatory questions that must be completed before operation. Checklists are customizable to each TMM and are site-specific. The Vehicle Access Unit act as an integrated key control solution authorizing only assigned personnel to operate specific TMM’s. A TMM will not start up unless the assigned operator is authorized to do so.
MOBILE UNITS
Mobile units, the Level eight compact unit detects TMM to TMM and TMM to the pedestrian. When a TMM or pedestrian is detected, the 360-degree display unit will warn the operator in 30-degree increments. The G.P.S. and RTLS technology make the mobile unit a cost-effective solution for any working environment. All pedestrians in the workplace should be equipped with a PTU unit. Suggestive audio and visual warnings will alert the pedestrian of danger.
Whenever the G.P.S. is diluted by the PTA, you will automatically switch to time of flight position determination. The back office displays the positioning of all teams and personnel on-site and is used to communicate critical fixed messages. The rules of the site, like speed limit areas, warning waypoints, no-go zones, geofenced areas, and biometric access controls are set up here. Standard reports generated by the back office include over speeding access, idling red zone incidents, amber zone incidents, loading zones, and test station reports.
Components are tamper-proof, maintenance-friendly, serviceable, onsite, and environmentally sealed to withstand the harshest of conditions. The Proximity Awareness Technology controller integrates via CANBUS onboard communication protocol to OEMs and third parties.
